GHG emissions within the natural gas value chain

  • xls

Definition
This indicator sets out the Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) generated at each step of the value chain for gas consumed in France. The total value is therefore the difference between the LCA emissions and the non-LCA emissions.

Analysis

Less than 30% of greenhouse gas emissions are due to regasification, storage and transportation. Exploration and production represent almost half of the emissions. The rest of it (31%) results from the distribution of gas. Between 2010 and 2013, greenhouse gas emissions have decreased by almost 20%.

It is interesting to underline that regasification and storage are not mandatory steps along the natural gas value chain.
