Share of natural gas in Europe’s final consumption of energyDefinition The share of natural gas in the final consumption of energy refers to the ratio between the total consumption of natural gas (industrial, residential/service and production of electricity) and the final total consumption of energy. Analysis The share of natural gas in the final consumption of energy for the EU-27 was 23.3% in 2010. In France, the share totals 20.5%, less than the average for Europe due to the widespread use of electricity to heat housing. This situation is specific to France, which has a large number of nuclear power plants. Producing countries, or countries close to producing countries, obviously have a greater share of gas in their final consumption of energy. |
