The share of natural gas in the final consumption of energy refers to the ratio between the total consumption of natural gas (industrial, residential/service and production of electricity) and the final total consumption of energy.

Analysis

The share of natural gas in the final consumption of energy for the EU-27 was 23.3% in 2010. In France, the share totals 20.5%, less than the average for Europe due to the widespread use of electricity to heat housing. This situation is specific to France, which has a large number of nuclear power plants. Producing countries, or countries close to producing countries, obviously have a greater share of gas in their final consumption of energy.
